Wandering Bear Creative is an independent publishing imprint focusing on speculative fiction. With two fantasy novels published and a long list of sequels and related material in the works, the editorial staff at Wandering Bear* is prepared to offer editorial and publishing services to the writing community.
Editing Services
Proofreading for novels involves reading the manuscript, finding and marking errors such as spelling errors, grammar mistakes, punctuation, and overall consistency.
Proofread: 0.01 / Word
Copyediting includes the corrective work found in proofreading, such as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and consistency, but also focuses on word choice and sentence structure for clarity and smoothness
Copy Edit: 0.02 / Word
Line editing differs from copyediting in its emphasis on the creative content, concentrating on the use of language and writing style at a sentence and paragraph level versus solely focusing on the mechanics.
Line Edit: 0.03 / Word
Proofreading and Copy Edit determinations are based on the standards established by the Chicago Manual of Style. Given that novel writing is an art form, considerations will be made, of course, for style and tone, but if you take issue with the Oxford comma, we might not be a good match.

Developmental Edit
Developmental editing of a manuscript focuses more on the bigger picture of the novel. It looks at aspects such as character development and motivation, plot flow, plot holes, pacing, and continuity. It is implemented early in the writing process to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, allowing the author to refine the overall story in their own subsequent edits. The feedback will include impressions (both positive and negative), points where the manuscript may be unclear or inconsistent, and may suggest possible solutions to enhance the reading experience

Publishing Services
If you choose to pursue fully independent or direct publishing, a finished manuscript is only the beginning. You will be responsible for how the words look on the page, whether that page is made of paper or pixels. The particulars of typesetting and layout for print require meticulous attention to detail and a certain degree of experience. I have worked with print layouts for Amazon, Barnes & Noble Press, and Ingram Spark, as well as Kindle and other E-Book formatting. If typesetting is a task you prefer to outsource, consider Wandering Bear.
